In the New Testament there is a letter which Paul wrote from prison to his friends at Philippi who were facing persecution. Paul encouraged them by saying, “Finally brethren whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely or gracious, if there is any excellence or anything worthy of praise, think about these things,” Philippians 4:8. One part of being human is that we can choose those things on which we center our thoughts. Even a child can view a thundershower as something to be afraid of or as a blessing for a farmer’s crop. We can focus our attention on the negative or the positive, see the problems or possibilities, complain or be thankful. The thoughts we choose can make life miserable or majestic.
